Oct 31 2011

So I started my day by going up to Nemec's to see
what bucks got turned in for the pool and to my
surprise no one got anything over the weekend...
But they have had a few over 200 and a couple
near 200..Lots of big deer this year...
The heaviest ones rack looks a lot like dads with
very heavy antlers...
After stopping up at the storage shed I stopped
down and met our cousin Jim who has a saw mill
and piked up some rough lumber for my next
secret project...Let me tell you that rough cut stuff
is HEEEEEEEAAAAAAAVY...Sure hope it dries
some before spring...
So here it is...#1 project for today...

Not as pretty as Tim's but itll work..Now Tim doesnt
have to bring his up each time...He'll have one right
here...Oh and Tim, dont forget your key since itll be
locked up with the picnic table...lol

Now secret project #2 is...

A gun rest for helping to site my gun in better...

Ive got a place all set up to along the road to mark
out my 100 yard mark so Ill hope to test it out
tomorrow...

I went down on the power line tonight hoping to
catch the "big one" cutting across...

FOOLED YA!!!
The guy I play golf with in NC actually got this today
for blackpowder season...Nice 8 pointer huh?

All I saw was a doe as I was walking out... :-(

Oct 30 2011

Woke up this morning to 31 degrees and only about
an inch or 2 of fresh snow...
Hunted with just 2 guys and myself so that limited the
drives we could do...
We didnt see anything and very little sign until the last
drive down on the flats...I saw 2 and JP saw 3 on watch
and Larry saw 5 on drive...Nice finish!
I then headed down to Albany to help Tim cut up the maple
branch that fell last night but by the time I got there, he and
Larry had most of it done...

Was a quiet day today...Worked on the lot for half
the day and then sat in my treestand for the rest of
the afternoon...
Didnt see anything but 4 turkeys and a red fox...
It was 34 when I came out of the woods and by the
time I got to Lake George it was starting to snow
lightly...I dont think we will get much...Looks like
its going to stay south...

Woke up this morning with the temp at 21 degrees...The snow pretty
much stopped after getting home so we got maybe an inch total...It warmed
up quickly so things melted pretty quick especially in the sun...
I worked on the spring road starting to clear it and also got a tree off my
walking bridge that fell this last year...
I got some jugs and tested the spring for flow rate and I estimated about
13 gallons per minute which is pretty good...
I did some more shoting of my gun and its hitting a lot better now that
I dropped down to 150 grain bullet...Did not like that 200 grain stuff...
I lastly started on a secret project but youll have to tune in tomorrow
to see what that is in that Im not finished with it yet...
Anise did not go home today since she was still a little joundasy so hopefully
she will head home tomorrow morning...Pray for Becky since they arent
able to stay with her...
Below are the pix I couldnt upload yesterday...The first one is my favorite...

Oct 24 2011

Had a fun day Sunday hunting with family and friends...
We ended up seeing 12 different deer throughout the day
of which 2 were bucks...
I personally saw 6 and 1 was a buck...I took a pretty long
shot but looked like I missed him...
The funniest thing I saw was a doe drooling...She had just
been standing still for 15 minutes and when she hopped closer
towards me she had this big long string of drool coming
out of her mouth...Im curious as to why since she hadnt
been eating or drinking and like I said had been standing
still for 15 minutes so not sure why the drool...
Today was a quiet day...Started out by waking to temps
at 33 degrees and foggy...Within a few hours though it had
gotten up to near 50...
Only other thing to have happen was a visit from this little
guy below...

Oct 19 2011

Not much to report today...I spent about 3 hours cleaning
the road from Carol and Don's road down to the corner before
heading down to Charlie and Vie's line...
The weather report said it was supposed to rain by noon
but as I got back to the room that all had changed and looked
like it was going to stay south of us...
Alas I headed out down back at 3pm to get some hunting in...As I drove
into Charlie and Vie's driveway, I spooked 3 deer from under
the apple tree right behind the house...I didnt see them good until
I got further back in when the one loner went back across the
roadway to get with the other 2 and I got a good look at her...
Other then these I didnt see anything...It started to rain just after
I got the stand up but was under a hemlock so stayed until 5:30
when I decided to come out since nothing was going to be running
with these scattered showers...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BECKY!!!

I went out west to see the kids today...On the way I stopped
in Esperance to see some of the damage from the floods a few
weeks ago...
It was crazy...Here is the bridge on Rt 20 crossing over to Esperance...
The bridge is about 30 feet above the water line and over 500 feet across...
Look at the debris lodged under the bridge...Later I talked to a local guy and
he said the water was above the railings...YIKES that a bunch of water!!

After meeting up with the kids (except April since she was at
work) Becky and Dusty took me to the lot where they will build
their house in the next few years...

A better look at the soon to be mom and dad...Any day!!

We went by Dusty's folks place to get some maple syrup
that they made and visited the farm across the street where
they raise alpaca's...

We all then went to Fly Creek Cider Mill...This was a cool
place where they had sample stations throughout the store...
If you went in on an empty stomach you were full by the time
you sampled the apple butter, salsa, BBQ sauces, apples, wines,
and fudge...They had everything covered...

The old press...

Ducks with mohawks!! LOL

No this goose is not mulching, this is the way they are...
They described it as a goose that looks like he went through
a wind tunnel backwards...

Old presses.

April was able to join us before Becky had to leave for
dinner...She brought her dog Abby...

Oct 14 2011

I got rained out today so decided to head up to
the Adirondack Museum for the day...I found out
it was closing this weekend so this worked out
perfect...There were way too many pictures so I
have only put about a third of them up...

Looking across Lake George...

A women from Texas has been here 8 years building
canoes by hand...It takes her about 2 summers to build
one canoe...

A comparison of 3 types of canoes...The birch
bark one weighs only 47 lbs where the middle
dugout canoe weighs over 150 lbs...The other
was too rotted to give a true weight.

A one room schoolhouse.

This was in the schoolhouse...Notice anything
wrong?

A cool coat rack.

A sign oh where my parents grew up.

This is a section of a blister from a birch tree. It
weighed over 2 tons and was over 6 feet tall.

An over 250 year old tree. My cell phone
in the middle to compare.

Horse drawn snow plow and snow roller.

This was a picture of a lake full of logs.

Over looking Blue Mountain Lake.
